# Alive vs ChatGPT

ChatGPT is best at being one assistant for almost everything, and it can already work while you are away: scheduled tasks run a prompt on a schedule you set, and on Plus and higher plans a task can start from activity in a connected Gmail, Slack or GitHub account. So working while you are gone is not only Alive, and this page does not pretend otherwise. What differs is what the work is built around. A ChatGPT task is a prompt that runs later or on an event. An Alive agent is a standing job with its own triggers, run limits, stop rules and run log, in tools such as Drive, Sheets, Stripe and Linear, and the same chat can build and publish a site or an app.

## When to choose ChatGPT

- You already pay for ChatGPT and the job is a prompt that should repeat: a morning briefing, a weekly summary, a reminder. A scheduled task needs no new tool.
- You want a task to start when a Gmail or Slack message arrives. ChatGPT supports that on Plus and higher plans. Alive's triggers are a schedule, a one-time run, a webhook and a GitHub event, and it does not connect to Slack.
- You want to start free. ChatGPT's free plan can run scheduled tasks. Alive has no free tier.

## When Alive fits

- The recurring job lives in Stripe, Linear, Google Drive and Sheets, GitHub or a mailbox, and you want an agent for it with its own run limits and stop rules.
- You want a record of every run, as a summary or the full log, with its credits.
