# Build a site or an app in chat. Agents keep working on it.

Alive builds websites and web apps from a chat, in a project in the cloud with a live preview. When it is built, the same project can be handed to agents that run on a schedule, from a webhook or on a GitHub event. Alive gives a business AI staff that work in the background, and building is one of the jobs they can do.

Checked against the product's own feature list on 7 October 2026.

## What you can build, and how

Websites and web apps. You describe them in chat, Alive builds them in the project and changes them when you ask.

### Describe it in chat

Say what the site or app is for and what it should do. Changes go the same way: you ask, Alive edits.

### Watch it take shape

A live preview sits next to the chat, at desktop width or at mobile width. A share link lets someone else look at it.

### Point at things

Click an element in the preview to say which one you mean, instead of describing where it is.

### Start from something

You can also begin from a template, from a GitHub repository or from an uploaded .zip.

### Publish

Ask for it in the chat and the site goes live on a subdomain. Alive builds it and publishes it as a static site.

### Use your own domain

Add a custom domain. Alive gives you the DNS records to set and verifies them.

## What carries on after it is built

A project is not finished when the site is. The same project can be given to an agent, which starts in one of four ways.

### On a schedule

Written in plain English, for example every weekday at 9:00. Or run once.

### From a webhook

Another system calls the agent's webhook and the agent starts.

### On a GitHub event

One of 15 kinds, among them pull requests, pushes and failing checks.

### From the task board

Assign a task to an agent now, or at a set time.

Each agent has run limits and stop rules. Every run reads back as a summary or as the full log, with its credits. Where Alive needs a yes, for a change in your calendar for example, it puts a card in the chat and waits. Mail stays a draft until you send it.

[What Alive does by itself in each tool is on the security page.](https://ali.ve/security)

## You can take it with you

The code does not have to stay in Alive.

- Connect GitHub or import a repository, and changes can come in as pull requests.
- Every saved version stays. Restore an earlier one when a change was a mistake.
- Export the source as a .zip whenever you want it.
- When a check fails on GitHub, a badge shows it and offers to fix it.
- An app that needs a server is deployed to your own Fly.io account.

## Native iPhone and Android apps (beta)

Alive can also build native apps with Expo. This part is in beta.

- Preview the app on an iPhone, an iPad or an Android simulator.
- iOS builds for the store are uploaded to App Store Connect and TestFlight.
- Android builds come out as an .aab file for Google Play.

The limits below apply, store accounts included.

## One example, start to finish

A small design studio wants a site with its work, its rates and a page about the team.

- **In the chat** The owner describes the site: who reads it, which pages, how it should feel. Alive builds it in a project in the cloud.
- **In the preview** She looks at it at desktop width and at mobile width, clicks the headline and asks for a shorter one, and sends the share link to her partner.
- **Published** She asks Alive in the chat to publish it. It goes live on a subdomain, as a static site.
- **On the studio's domain** She adds the domain, sets the DNS records Alive shows her, and Alive verifies them.
- **Kept safe** She connects GitHub and picks a repository, so changes can come in as pull requests. Earlier versions can be restored, and the source is a .zip away.
- **Looked after** A scheduled agent, set up in plain English, runs on the first of every month. It compares the rates on the site with the price list in Google Sheets and says what differs. If a client has to hear about a change, it writes the mail in Gmail, and that mail stays a draft until she sends it.
- **When something breaks** A failing check on GitHub starts a second agent in the same project. Its run reads back as a summary or the full log, with the credits it used.

## Limits

What does not work, said before you find out.

- Published sites are static. Alive builds the site and publishes it as static files. It does not run a server for you.
- An app that needs a server is deployed to your own Fly.io account. Alive does not host servers itself.
- Native apps are in beta. You need your own store account to publish one, and an Android build takes much longer than an iOS build.
- On GitHub an agent can push and merge without asking. You choose which repositories it may use and can switch off single tools of the connection.
- You cannot sign up on your own, and there is no free plan. Getting in takes an access code or an invite, and the way in is a call.
- Alive is a product, not an agency. You describe and decide, Alive builds. The Solo and Team plans include personal onboarding.
